Nasheed Tiles
Music / reflexAbout
Four lanes of tiles scroll down the board, one tile per row. Tap them in order from the bottom and each tap sings the next note, so a clean run performs the nasheed rather than just scoring points. Tap the wrong lane, or let a tile slip past the bottom, and the run ends; the board speeds up as you go. The melodies are original, written in the Arabic maqamat — Hijaz, Bayati and Rast to begin with, and Saba, Kurd and Nahawand in the Second Maqam Set — with the quarter tones those modes actually use, and sung by a synthesised voice rather than an instrument. The duff can be switched off for unaccompanied singing.
